WHATS UP FRIENDS, EAT W YOUR EARS IS BACK! 1ST WORDS SINCE 2022!
it’s been a while and i’ve moved on from this newsletter, but it’s nice to know all these friends are just an email away. i hope we connect soon & i hope that you take a moment to process whatever this year has done to you. it’s a wild ride.
between us—honestly?—i wrote this entire newsletter to share this christmas playlist. it’s updated. it’s classic. enjoy it while you can!
now with more shoegaze! joyeux noel homies~~
if christmas music ain’t for you like it aint for me…
if you like being happy… but don’t love being happy…
please refer to my newsest, fuzziest, misty playlist called “acid horizons".
it’s emotionally south of neutral—and perfect for the crippling fragments of half-thoughts that form around this time of year— i hope this strange and cryptic music creates landscapes in your dreams.
i’ve been baking an annual cookie pack for my family and neighbors for the past 2 year now & this gingebread recipe has been the highlight across the board. my dad loves it, it get’s better as it gets stale, i stole it (from this cookbook) and i bribed a guy named frank for a table at a restaurant last week when it was booked (shoutout frank from frankie’s 457 and perman for brokering the deal).
if you are looking for a christmas day ~creative~ moment, try imprinting some festive patterns into these cookies. the museum quality image below was created with a potato masher and a single earing i found in my girlfriend’s toiletries bag.
last meal: [tomato sandwich] - this year was a big change up for me. lot of inner work. lot of surviving. lot of “working it out”— i prioritized other parts of life than food. i tried to cook more simply. my favorite meal was a tomato sandwich. i ate it on my birthday. alone. a fresh sourdough loaf, duke’s mayo, lotta salt. a piece of lettuce (washed) and an inch thick slice of a yellow tomato that was as big as a grapefruit. honestly, i’ve missed full-force indulgence… but i will remember the first bite of this simple sandwich for the rest of my life.
last restaurant [elkano - getaria] - i begged for a table in broken spanish at the 20th best restaurant in the world in basque country. they grill fish and serve them without sauce. simple, clean, well executed. low frills. this is what it’s all about baby! i was wearing bike leotard! shrimp cooked in salt water! ice cream made of goat cheese! bonus points for having the same table as this crazy bourdain / chang / boulud clip on youtube. ask me about this meal… i double dog dare you.
last movie [my dinner with andre] - the feeling of the late night conversation with your best friend over a nice meal—yeah, the one where you figured it all out—and then they covered the bill.
last art [agnes martin - untitled (beautiful day)] - it’s nice to see a thing that reminds you to pay attention to what’s in front of you. they are horrible paintings to see on a screen—she saw the vision and held it.
last song [just be good to me - beats international] - this song is a bop. what a cheesy groove that’s actually a cover of a disco anthem. even more of a bop when ur first listen is in the middle of a drum-and-bass vinyl set in a forest. tracks like these got layer— tracks like these are what we do it for!!!
last album [shyness - chantsss] - restrained experimental ambient that might belong in a catholic church. gorgeous, heavy, cerebral, sporadic, unexpected. i can’t stop listening to this album. thankful to find a copy of the vinyl at ergot records in new york. great store for experimental and old rock / country vinyls. check it out.
last dj mix [grizzly mike peak time + grizzly mike ambient] - i had the joy of playing music for people a lot this year. i think i finally triangulated my sound. it’s textured, gravitas, and always with a hint of tongue-and-cheek. i’m looking to dj more shows in 2025 & create a regular ~ambient~ radio show. lets lincoln build (link-and-build) if you love music too.
thanks for joining me for dinner. (again).
no promises i’ll be back anytime soon—
